AST Tour: Shaun White Clears Lasek In Vert Skate!
E365> AST Tour - Sunday July 22 2007
E365 -- Shaun White has won Vert Skate in the AST Dew Tour, nailing Bucky Lasek in a couple of short runs after injuring himself. Has this guy got any concept of "second place"?
After the first two runs, stalwart vert pioneer Bucky Lasek was in the lead, pulling some comfortable tricks out of the bag and setting up for another pumping finale in Cleveland.
But Shaun White had other ideas.
"I just dug as deep as I could. I landed that run and I'm just in awe right now," White said after his win. He'd put on a blistering show, and now the pendulum swung back to Lasek.
With the pressure on, Lasek had just one shot to nail White. But he buckled, and fell after dropping in.
The whole vibe was so unexpected. Beating the reigning champ after injuring yourself? Unlikely.
Can he win the overall title?
"That would be amazing for me. I'm off to a good start so I don't want to jinx it," he said. "What a cool way to start off this whole tour for me."
