Ukraine seized victory from the Czech Republic and France in a fierce battle in the Junior Women's Cross Country today, Wednesday 5 September.
Despite being the last competitor to start, Ukrainian Alla Boyko achieved the fastest lap of the race to finish almost 30 seconds ahead of her nearest rival, Jitka Skarnitzlova of the Czech Republic, with Julie Bresset of France securing the last podium place.
In accepting her victory, Alla Boyka said, 'I felt good about the race before it began, and felt that I may have a chance. I just knew at the start of the downhill section that the race was mine. It was a tough ride, both physically and mentally but winning makes it worth all the pain and hard work. I used to hate the rain, but after today it's my friend'
Great Britain's Annie Last finished in 16th place in what was a demanding race in challenging conditions.
